Karachi: The Sindh Assembly has rejected a resolution seeking a province-wide ban on liquor shops, including the cancellation of all related licenses and a prohibition on the sale and purchase of alcohol.
The resolution was presented by MQM lawmaker Anil Kumar, who called for a complete ban on liquor sales across Sindh and the revocation of all existing licenses.

The provincial government opposed the resolution during the assembly session. Sindh’s Interior Minister stated that imposing a ban on liquor outlets would negatively impact various segments of society.
He argued that the issue required a broader understanding of legal, social, and economic implications before any such decision could be considered.
Resolution Fails to Pass
Following debate in the assembly, the resolution was formally rejected.
The development has sparked discussion regarding the regulation of alcohol sales in Sindh, where liquor sales are legally permitted under specific licensing rules, primarily for non-Muslims and foreigners.
